Our EquityTech vertical empowers entrepreneurs dedicated to creating inclusive systems that close equity gaps in wealth, education, and opportunity, with a focus on EdTech and the Future of Work.
Halcyon ran our inaugural EquityTech Fellowship in 2024, supporting eight ventures through an immersive eight-week in-person residency in Washington, DC with expert training, mentorship, technical and legal support, networking events, and more. Our second iteration of the program successfully ran from September through November 2025.
In EquityTech, we focus on the realities of selling into education systems, governments, and large enterprises, as well as measuring impact on access and equity. Skill series and office hours address topics like contracting with governments, investing in public education, impact measurement for education and workforce solutions, pricing and sales strategies for institutional buyers, and channel–market fit. We prioritize partnerships with school systems, workforce agencies, impact investors, and corporate partners that can help founders navigate procurement, pilots, and scale pathways for tools that close gaps in wealth, education, and opportunity.
Enlightapp is an AI-driven platform dedicated to advancing educational equity by tailoring learning experiences to the unique backgrounds, interests, and social-emotional needs of students in under-resourced communities. Each week, students share their interests, challenges, and aspirations through a four-question check-in; then the Enlightapp platform instantly synthesizes responses into visual “class stories,” spotlighting trends like “80% of students crave collaborative projects” or “30% report feeling anxious about exams.” Educators get clear, timely action items, from tailored icebreakers to micro-interventions grounded in SEL research, without sifting through spreadsheets or lengthy academic papers. Built for simplicity, Enlightapp’s bite-sized stories approach fits seamlessly into busy schedules, empowering teachers to foster culturally responsive relationships that drive engagement and boost achievement. By turning student voices into actionable intelligence, Enlightapp ensures every learner, regardless of background, feels seen, supported, and set up to thrive.
Excuela is a mobile education system for frontline workers, as well as individuals at the bottom of the social pyramid (vulnerable populations). Their solution is mobile-first, low-tech (without unnecessary complex features), and low-bandwidth (it weighs less than a high-resolution photo; even the app version can be used without internet access).
They’ve followed a reverse engineering process, developing from the tool that an individual at the base of the organizational or social pyramid has: a not-so-sophisticated smartphone. Their solution is based on active learning, cohort-based (asynchronous dynamics with peer interaction within your organization), and scenario-based content (they do not include generic content, but customize the content according to their clients’ industry). They leverage AI to design learning courses taking into account the relevant context of their target audience and their existing knowledge, as well as the reality in which they live (limited stable connectivity). Their solution prioritizes continuous interaction with content through questions and constructs learning objectives with micro or bite-sized content that can easily be followed on mid-range to low-end smartphones. As of now, 85.8% of the population in LatAm owns mobile phones, with similar levels of mobile connectivity penetration in other emerging regions of the world.
KindEd is a K–12 social media and AI literacy program that helps students build self-awareness, critical thinking, and healthier digital habits. KindEd focuses on how tech design and use influence identity, behavior, relationships, and mental health. Students engage with real-world scenarios, reflect on their habits, and work together to create shared norms around device and platform use. Teachers facilitate the process, while student voices drive the learning, making lessons more relevant and meaningful. The curriculum is inquiry-based, student-centered, and accessible across literacy levels—and is available in both a physical format and an adaptive digital platform. KindEd’s digital platform uses natural language processing to personalize content and prompt deeper thinking.
KindEd defines social media broadly to include any app designed to hold attention or influence behavior, including content, gaming, and shopping platforms. KindEd combines emotional learning and behavioral science to help students understand how digital environments shape what they feel and do. This is especially needed in under-resourced communities, where students often spend more time online and face higher mental health risks with fewer supports. KindEd partners with schools, families, and educators to help students build healthier habits and make more intentional choices online.
