Jane Kim
Jane Kim is the founder of KindEd, a social media and AI literacy program that takes a behavior-focused approach to healthy and responsible digital use. She spent nearly a decade teaching in under-resourced Chicago schools, where she saw how devices and social media use changed everything, from student learning and behavior to school culture. The impact of screen use and engagement-driven technology on learning is significant, costly, and disproportionately felt in communities with fewer supports. KindEd grew out of her classroom experience and her belief that students need relevant education and practical tools, not just rules and restrictions, to reflect on their tech use and build habits that work for them. Students must be decision makers in their own lives and active participants in co-creating the solutions for their generation.
Jane developed KindEd while earning her master’s degree at the University of Chicago, where she was named a 2023–24 Obama Foundation Scholar. The curriculum is grounded in cognitive behavioral methods and inquiry-based learning, which support behavior change through a learner-centered approach. Tech is designed to pull us into constant engagement, and children today are expected to spend more than 40 years of their lives on screens and online. Jane’s goal is to bring KindEd to every child and community where needed, so students can take control of their digital lives and their time spent online is meaningful, healthy, and intentional.
