Tariq King

Born and raised on the island of Jamaica, Tariq King grew up navigating a world far richer and more complex than its postcard image suggests—one shaped by both the beauty of its natural environment and the very real pressures threatening it. The youngest of four, raised by a pastor and guidance counsellor, Tariq developed early a curiosity for the world and a drive to understand how it works. That curiosity led him through Applied Environmental Geography at the Northern Caribbean University, where his final research tackled coastal erosion and integrated coastal zone management in the Black River community. He has since completed a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, further sharpening his command of environmental principles and natural resource conservation, as well as waste, water, and disaster risk management—applying them to land use, sustainable development, and climate resilience across Small Island Developing States.
