María Elizabeth González Apodaca
María Elizabeth is an architect (UNAM) with parallel training in the Restoration Project and Works of the former Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in Oaxaca, Mexico, INAH-UNAM. Drawing from that experience, she continues her research into non-industrialized materials and technologies rooted in ancestral knowledge, with a particular interest in the social and regional processes that underlie the choices of what is designed and built. She designs and builds with earth and regenerative materials, weaving together technique, art, and craft in connection with the land. Her expertise spans traditional construction techniques as a living source of knowledge capable of producing contemporary, locally rooted, sustainable architecture. Her professional practice encompasses architectural design, natural construction, and the conservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings. She holds a Master’s in Conservation and Restoration of Architectural and Urban Heritage from ETSAM, Madrid, Spain. María Elizabeth is the Co-Founder of Mixterra and Founder of CaO taller, an architecture studio and creative experimental laboratory working with natural materials.
